For this study for the BC Ministry of Transportation, a model developed for the U.S. Federal Highway Administration was adapted to estimate economic benefits to shippers from enhanced reliability of truck shipments on three major highway corridors in B.C.
Model inputs included available roadside survey and truck count data on three major highway corridors, commodity density and value data derived from Vancouver Port Authority statistics, and travel time data collected for BC MOT to monitor performance of the highway network. Based on this data, the potential Net Present Value of supply chain efficiencies due to reduced inventory costs was calculated for the three corridors.
